Established in the year 2000, Wallace Pipes and Drums owes its beginning to a rich British colonial history and heavy military influence on Malta, as can be seen from the numerous historic sites and fortifications scattered across the island.
Apart from the numerous performances held for local events, Wallace Pipes and Drums annually perform at the Malta Military Tattoo, together with the Massed Pipes and Drums. Moreover, their vast musical repertoire and displays enables them to perform on various special occasions as sole performers throughout the year.
Wallace Pipes and Drums also had the honour to represent the Maltese Commonwealth culture overseas. Such events included visits to France, Wales and Switzerland as the official hosting band of the Whisky Connoisseurs of Malta. performing in Perth during the Annual Pipe Fest for HM the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, in Bucharest for Europe Day festivities in the ‘Fanfare Music Festival’ in 2014 and at the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland in 2016/2019
The crowning moment for the band surely was its first participation at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2013. For the second time, in 2017 the band again participated in this show. For months, countless hours were spent learning the repertoire and preparing kits and uniforms to the highest standards in order to give the audience a memorable experience at that year’s edition of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The band for the second time was invited to join the Massed Pipes and Drums of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and perform in front of an audience of 8000 people for 24 shows. In one of the shows they were honoured to escort the Wallace Clan members in a parade inside Edinburgh Castle as an autonomous contingent. Prince Charles and Prince William attended also one of the shows and it was a crowning moment to perform for them.
The band is now looking forward to more piping and drumming both in Malta and overseas. In Malta we perform mainly in funerals, street parades, weddings and private functions
